Are the books really that good? If they are I’ll have to do that first
I am half way through the first book and it is intense
“When we hear people saying they cant believe in a God who gets angry-yes, they can. How should God react to a child being forced into prostitution?”
Rob Bell Love Wins
Love Wins by Rob Bell was a interesting piece of literary. He pushes against the current of traditional Christianity by questioning the belief of a eternal Hell. I am a Christian that is very much into controversy, so my review is a little bias. I did like the book for the most part. He used scripture to back up his views, but in multiple places of the book it seems that he twists the meaning of the verse.
Positives: Rob Bell is a fantastic modern day writer. He knows our language and uses it a creative way. He does go against what the average Christian believes, but does so in a way that makes us question and dive into scripture to truly understand what we believe ourselves. One of the things he said and i really liked it was “If we want hell, if we want heaven, they are ours. That is how love works. It can not be forced, manipulated, or coerced.” This is true. It is our decision of what we do all this other stuff is just speculation. Also, what goes along with this that I enjoyed and is full of truth. Is the question, “Does God want us to teach people about getting to heaven or bringing heaven to those in need of it?”
Negative: The 7th chapter of the book put a sour taste in my mouth. I did not like his interpretation of prodigal son because i think he twisted that story to be about where heaven and hell are located and I do not think we can take every parable that Jesus told us and twist it to fit every subject. These parables were meant to tell us something not everything. Also, I dont like that he claims that he can not believe that a God that is all loving would condemn people to hell forever. While I agree that that is hard to swallow my question in return is: If that is how God decides to deal with our souls than who are we to question it? He created us and His plan is greater.
Conclusion: If you have a been a Christian for a while and would like to read something with a little bit of controversy then this is the book for you. If you are a new Christian this is not a book for you. Not to say that you cant read it because you can do what you like but i think that people that are new to the faith should like babies be feed like babies (1 Corth. 3). This book is hard to swallow at in some parts and if you do not know enough scripture to stand your ground than I think you need to sharpen your knowledge of scripture.

It’s a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what. The weird thing about telling someone they’re dying is it tends to focus their priorities. You find out what matters to them. What they’re willing to die for. What they’re willing to lie for.
